Splashwater Kingdom in Louisville
The largest waterpark in Kentucky, hands down, is Splashwater Kingdom at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, right in the heart of Louisville. A great hotel to stay in just across the amusement park parking lot is the Crowne Plaza Hotel, formerly the Executive West Hotel. Though the rooms are small, the decor is great, with exposed beams and natural rock walls giving it the feel of a lodge. It has an indoor and an outdoor pool, and all the public areas have wireless Internet access. A small workout room is well-equipped and open 24 hours.

SomerSplash in Somerset
Somerset is located near Lake Cumberland, a gorgeous fishing, swimming and houseboating spot. The very best way to enjoy Somerset--and SomerSplash--is on a houseboat. Failing that, the Doolin House Inn is a local bed and breakfast offering rooms with jacuzzi tubs, gas fireplaces and room service. Unlike your typical bed and breakfast, Doolin House is in a newer home, providing clean modern space, yet it still has gracious Southern charm.

Kentucky Splash Waterpark in Williamsburg
This waterpark is located in one of the prettiest regions of Kentucky, only 20 miles from Cumberland Falls. If you want to stay close to the park, the best hotel in town is the Cumberland Inn and Museum. Run by a local college to provide students a place to work, this hotel boasts an indoor pool and spa, wireless Internet, and an outstanding restaurant on site, the Athenaeum Restaurant. And yes, it has, not one, but two museums, the Henkelmann Life Sciences Museum featuring local information, and the Williams Cross Museum, with over 7,000 crosses and crucifixes.

If you prefer to stay closer to Cumberland Falls, your hotel choice is clear: the DuPont Lodge and Cottages, run by the Kentucky Parks Administration. This lodge is located right on the Cumberland River, about 1000 feet upstream from the falls, and provides you with a great place to stay while hiking, rafting and just enjoying the area. You won't find many traditional hotel amenities--wireless Internet and a good restaurant are about all--but you will find incredible natural beauty. If you come here, try to stay during a full moon so you can enjoy the ethereal beauty of the moonbow, the only predictable falls moonbow in the world.

Venture River Family Waterpark in Eddyville
If you stay at the Hampton Inn Kuttawa/Eddyville and buy your Venture River tickets at the hotel, you'll get a second day at the park for free--and that might be all you need to bring you here. But the hotel is pretty good too. It's small, with only 63 rooms, but still provides amenities like a pool (outdoor), and complimentary breakfast. No fitness room, but the hotel is very clean, and the friendly staff are ready to help you with anything you need.
