Branson, Missouri Restaurants

Branson, Missouri Restaurants
Branson may be the home of comedy schtick, country music, family entertainment, beautiful lakes and rugged outdoors terrain, but there are also a handful of top shelf restaurants if you know where to look. Three of the best are discussed below. If you find yourself in the area, make it a point to sample one or all three. There's a good chance you will not be disappointed.

Candlestick Inn

Located away from the bedlam of the "strip" on Highway 76, Candlestick Inn occupies a scenic vantage point on a bluff across from downtown Branson. Diners can view, from a distance, the hustle and bustle of the promenade of The Landing along the shoreline of Lake Taneycomo, while enjoying a premiere Branson culinary experience in quiet serenity. Since 1962 Candlestick Inn has occupied the top rung of reputation around town. Quality food prepared creatively is their hallmark, as is excellent service. Not New York City expensive but prices at Candlestick are toward the top end on the Branson scale. Expect to pay about $50 per person for a three-course meal with dessert and drinks.

Outback Steak and Oyster Bar

Don't confuse the Outback Steak and Oyster Bar with the chain of restaurants by the same name. This one is a step above in quality and creativity. The Outback serves up seafood and steak with the emphasis on Australian style. Grab a dozen fresh-shucked oysters or an appetizer of fried 'gator at the bar while waiting for your table. There are over 100 different beers and Australian wines on the drink menu. Find family friendly seating inside the cavernous indoor dining area or choose the screened veranda that circles the building outside. A short walk from the restaurant (on the same property) is the Outback Pub, which features appetizers, sandwiches and live music.

Rocky's Italian Restaurant

Proof positive not to judge the quality of a restaurant by its appearance, this world-class Italian food joint calls home an old roadhouse-looking building that used to be a feed store. Don't be fooled. Inside, the darkened, classy interior is quietly elegant with local art decorating the walls. Spaghetti and meatballs anchor the menu but there are plenty of Alfredo pastas and non-Italian items carrying hints of basil, garlic and oregano. Rocky's is located off the beaten track in downtown Branson, but well worth the extra minute or two it takes to leave the main drag and get there.
