The mountains of Western North Carolina offer visitors some of the highest peaks on the east coast of the United States. Abundant wildlife, majestic waterfalls, numerous hiking trails and a relaxed lifestyle make this area of the state a popular tourist destination. The town of Franklin is a favorite place for artisans, mineral hunters and mountain music fans. Accommodations in the area are numerous, with many cottages and cabins offering a rustic alternative to the hotels and motels dotting the mountain region.

Big Bear Log Cabins

Located right off State Highway 441, the Big Bear Log Cabins offer accommodations for up to four adults in each of its cabins, although a loft area is suitable for two or three children, and each cabin comes equipped with a futon bed. Alternatively, the larger Fox Den house offers three bedroom, two-bath living that's ideal for large parties.

Fully-furnished modern units with wood floors, country kitchen, locally-made mountain furniture and all of the amenities of home welcome guests. Sheets and towels are provided. Nearby, numerous hiking trails include the famous Appalachian trail.

Wayah Creek Cottages

Immediately in front of the secluded Wayah Creek Cottages is Wayah Bald, a 5342 foot mountain peak on which pass the Appalachian and Bartram trails. One and two-bedroom cottages outfitted with native stone fireplaces, pine or chestnut paneling, full kitchens and linen/towel service are among the amenities offered.

The Wayah Creek runs through the property, abundant wildlife lives in and around the premises and the owners welcome their guests to share the bounty from their seasonal herb garden.

Big Bear Log Cabins

Located on a 60-acre parcel of land on a mountainside plateau, Big Bear Log Cabins feature nine distinctively-styled buildings from an intimate two bedroom, one bath log cabin to a stately six bedroom, five bath cabin home.

Each cabin is fully furnished, with linens and paper products supplied. Children and pets are welcome as are motorcycle enthusiasts. Located just outside of Franklin, there are many hiking trails located nearby, including the Standing Indian Mountain Long Loop and Yellow Trails. The Rufus Morgan Falls, gem mines and the Nantahala River are in close proximity, the latter offering fishing, kayaking, tubing and boating opportunities.
