Auslander Restaurant
Auslander is a live music hot spot in the historic downtown area, hosting bands Thursday through Saturday. Sit in the quieter dining room or in the outdoor biergarten. Auslander boasts a huge beer selection (almost 70 from all countries) and an array of meaty German entrees from $12 to $16, as well as American steaks, sandwiches and salads. Closed Wednesdays.

Friedhelm's Bavarian Restaurant
Situated on the west edge of town, it is hard to miss this huge red restaurant and inn with the domed tower in front. The large, open dining room, while warm and vibrant, falls short of German ambiance except for the staff in traditional dress. However, the menu promises authentic cuisine including schnitzels, rouladen, brat and knackwurst, as well as family steakhouse favorites. Closed on Mondays.

Altdorf Biergarten
Occupying a 19th-century limestone building in the heart of the historic district, Altdorf has historical charm, outdoor biergarten seating and it doesn't get too uptight about being strictly German. Tex-Mex and burgers share the menu with schnitzels and sausages. Altdorf is closed on Tuesdays.

Der Lindenbaum
Also located in the historic district, Der Lindenbaum has a cozy charm and Old World architecture. The professional chef/owner has designed the menu which includes stews, schnitzels and strudels. One you may not find elsewhere is the konigsberger klopse--meat and pork balls in caper sauce over herb noodles. Focusing specifically on German menu items, you will find the largest selection of German beers. The home-baked pastries and bread make a rich dessert.
