Best Restaurants in Breckenridge, Colorado
Breckenridge is located in Summit County, Colorado. This historic mountain town is home to a world-class ski resort, as well as an endless variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Its surrounding mountains beg to be climbed, and its rivers offer a popular venue for fishing and rafting. Cyclists can enjoy the scenery along Ten Mile Drive. Come summer, take the Breckenridge chairlift to the mountain top and enjoy mountain biking through the labyrinth of trails. These vigorous activities can work up quite an appetite. The town's restaurants are, fortunately, as exciting and varied as the outdoor activities.

The Hearthstone

Breckenridge is one of the few ski towns that has remained faithful to its Victorian heritage; this is evident the moment you enter the Hearthstone Restaurant. In the 1800s, the building that houses the Hearthstone was the home of Christ Kaiser, who was the local butcher and one of the wealthiest men in Breckenridge. Today, the restaurant's elegant decor transports you back to a kinder, gentler period of history. This is gourmet dining at its finest. The menu, which varies on a regular basis, uses local meats and vegetables. The Hearthstone is expensive, but if you are in town in April, they take part in the Taste of Breckenridge, a festival that features substantial discounts at Breckenridge restaurants. Hearthstone is open for dinner. Call for hours.

Cool River Coffee House

The Cool River Coffee House overlooks the Blue River. It's a short walk from the Breckenridge Village at Peak Nine. They are open for breakfast and lunch. Since they close at 4:30 p.m., you might want to get an early start on the slopes, skip the expensive and tasteless Breckenridge cafeteria food and take a late lunch at the Cool River. If there was a Ph.D for sandwich making making, the owners of the Cool River would receive it. Not only are their sandwiches piled high and deep, they are creative and enticing. Turkey lovers should check out the turkey, cranberry sauce and cream cheese sandwich served on whole grain bread. Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy the freshly baked goods. The restaurant also has a free book exchange.
