The St. John's River, the longest in Florida, meanders 310 miles through 12 counties. Flowing south to north, the river begins west of Vero Beach and winds its way slowly up the state, passing through swamps and lakes until reaching the Atlantic Ocean at Mayport. From down home to refined, there are a wide variety of options when choosing riverfront accommodations.

Astor Bridge Marina and Hotel

The Astor Bridge Marina and Hotel was previously one of the many fish camps along the river. In 2009, it is an active marina and hotel. When staying, guests have their choice of a riverfront cottage, which includes a living room with a queen-size sleeper sofa, private bedroom, equipped kitchenette and television or canal-front hotel rooms, which include a queen-size bed and television. The Castaways Restaurant is on the premises. All rooms are non-smoking and no pets are allowed. Boat slips equipped with electricity and water are available. As of November 2009, room rates were $79 and $99 a night.

Quality Inn & Suites Riverfront

Quality Inn & Suites Riverfront is located in Palatka, Fla. Within easy walking distance of the historic downtown district, the hotel offers easy access to cultural sights, restaurants and bars. Guest rooms include refrigerator, microwave and cable television. Guests can also enjoy free wireless Internet, an outdoor pool, the Steamboat Landing Restaurant and Lava Lounge. Handicap accessible and non-smoking rooms are available. Pets weighing 15 pounds or less are allowed for a nightly fee. For boaters, the hotel offers 21 boat slips with water and electricity. Rooms ranged from $89 to $119 a night as of November 2009.

The Club Continental, located in Orange Park, is a Mediterranean-style inn with "old Florida charm." Choose from either a bed and breakfast-style room in the main mansion or a river suite; 22 rooms are available. Amenities include private balconies, free wireless Internet, cable television, access to the business center and complimentary continental breakfast. Guests at Club Continental can enjoy the expansive grounds, which include gardens, multiple tennis courts and pools and live entertainment at the Riverhouse Pub. For those who want to experience a night in the city along the river, consider the Crowne Plaza Jacksonville Riverfront. This modern 10-story hotel is located in the heart of Jacksonville with ready access to shopping and dining opportunities. The hotel has 292 non-smoking guestrooms with amenities including free wireless Internet, voice mail, cable television and walk-out balconies with city or river view. Handicap accessible rooms are available. No pets are allowed. Room rates ranged from $79 to $169 a night as of November 2009.
