Hotels in the Adirondacks

Hotels in the Adirondacks
The Adirondacks region in northern New York is a giant playground for outdoor enthusiasts with 1,500 miles of rivers and streams, 3,000 lakes and ponds, and 2,000 miles of hiking trails. In the winter, there is snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing and snowshoeing. But there is no need to rough it when it comes to lodging. Check out these three top hotels in the Adirondacks.

High Peaks Resort

This full-service resort is one of the more elegant---and pricey--places to stay in the Adirondacks. Situated on the shores of Mirror Lake in Lake Placid, the property has a slew of on-site amenities, including three pools, a large fitness center, restaurants, lounge and a full-service spa. Contemporary rooms are in four buildings, some lakeside and some across the street, with updated baths (think European-style fixtures, walk-in showers, large showerheads, plush towels and stone tile floors) and small patios or balconies, some with views of Lake Mirror. Average room rate is about $270 a night.

Blue Lagoon Resort

Location, location, location...you can't beat this one on the shores of Lake George in the Adirondacks. There are water views aplenty, a small beach and a picnic area with a BBQ grill that guests can use, a dock, and boats for rent. The owners are bend over backwards nice, eager to assist and help in any way. Rooms are old-fashioned and could use an update; there are also small cabins to rent. The friendly, down-home style of this property is best suited for families and travelers tired of cookie-cutter chain motel rooms and don't mind a clean but rustic room. In-season motel room rates are $115 to $135. Motel efficiencies are $135 to $145. Cottages are rented by the week.

Heritage of Lake George

Family-owned and managed, this older, well-kept property sits across the street from Lake George, within walking distance to village shops and restaurants. It is the little things that make this hotel a winner, starting with super clean rooms and well-maintained, landscaped grounds, an outdoor pool and BBQ area, fire pit for evening marshmallow roastings and a friendly staff. All rooms have microwaves and mini refrigerators; there are also efficiencies with separate dining and living areas and full kitchens. In-season, summer room rates for standard motel rooms are $160.
