If shows, shops and crowds aren't your thing, Branson, Missouri, still has a lot to offer any lover of the outdoors. Ozark wilderness surrounds this town, with beautiful lakes and more than 200 miles of trails. And the city itself isn't without a few quiet spots. Staying in a peaceful log cabin could turn your Branson trip into an escape. You'll probably spend more if you go in the summer, but many cabins are available all year.

Nestled in a wooded area just a few moments from the attractions of Branson, these smoke-free log cabins are ideal for folks who want to experience Branson life while also getting close to nature. The cabins are within Westgate Branson Woods Resort, which sits on 145 acres. Take a walk on the nature trail or sign up for mountain bike tours and kayaking. State Park Marina on Table Rock Lake is just six miles away. One- and two-bedroom cabins are available. You have to stay for at least two nights and leave the pets at home.

Cabins at Grand Mountain

These Colorado-spruce cabin duplexes are a few blocks from Country Music Boulevard in the heart of Branson. But the natural scenery around them keeps things private and quiet. Rent a one-bedroom cabin for a small family or an entire duplex that sleeps up to 16 (no pets, however). There's a hiking trail less than two miles away that takes you down to Lake Taneycomo. Table Rock Lake is about a six-mile drive. Thousand Hills Golf Resort manages these properties, so bring your clubs if you'd like to squeeze in a few rounds.

Compton Cove Log Cabin

A view of the White River Valley is what you'll get at this cabin near Table Rock Lake. Spend the day fishing and swimming, and then take in the Branson nightlife just five minutes away. The two-bedroom, two-bath cabin has a loft and whirlpool tub. If you're flying to Branson, Compton Cove can arrange for a shuttle to and from the cabin. The management requires a two-night minimum stay and prohibits smoking and pets.

Trail's End Resort & RV Park

Enjoy Table Rock Lake in a log cabin no more than 125 yards from the water's edge. Trail's End Resort & RV Park---part of Indian Point Resorts---has one- and two-bedroom log cabins, along with resort units and RV hook-up sites. Indian Point has its own marina, with lighted boat docks, guest boat slips and personal-watercraft docking ports. If you don't have your own boat, rent one from the marina and spend your day on Table Rock. These cabins are available from early spring until late fall. Children under age four stay free. Indian Point doesn't allow pets in the Trail's End cabins.
