Roatan, Honduras Hotels

Roatan, Honduras Hotels
Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands that lie off the coast of Honduras in the Caribbean. Roatan is approximately 37 miles long and averages 1 to 3 miles wide. The main tourist areas are on the west end of the island in the villages of West End, West Bay, and Sandy Bay. There are new residential developments, hotels, condominiums and a golf course being built on the east end of the island, but the tourist focus remains in the West End. There are, however, a couple of superior lodging options on the east end.

Las Rocas Resort & Dive Center

Las Rocas is located in between West Bay Beach and West End. You can walk or take a taxi or water taxi to either village from this convenient location. Las Rocas has bungalows in several price ranges based on size, location, and view and a full service PADI dive center with a variety of dives, courses and packages available. They offer additional land and water activities and have a bar and gourmet restaurant that is "Caribbean food with an Italian twist."

Pura Vida Resort

If you prefer to stay in a hotel that is in the midst of the nightlife, cafes, galleries, and shops of a tourist center, Pura Vida Resort is perfectly located in the heart of West End. The air conditioned rooms are located on several levels. Some have patio access and others have decks with reef and ocean views. They have a complete PADI dive shop and extensive offering of dives including shark dives and dolphin dives. The restaurant is open from breakfast through supper and has full bar and an extensive menu--with American, Honduran, and European influences--that has something to satisfy everyone.

Anthony's Key Resort

Anthony's Key Resort is a well-established all inclusive resort that has been in Sandy Bay for forty years. It is one of the largest resorts on the island with 56 bungalows that are either oceanside or hillside. The dive center is PADI Gold Palm 5-Star and they have 10 modern dive boats to accommodate guests, though shore diving at Anthony's Key is also superior and they have dolphin programs right on site. Anthony's Key is also home to R.I.M.S. (The Roatan Institute for Marine Science) and they have numerous activities available both on and off site. Anthony's Key Resort is well equipped to handle weddings and corporate retreats.

Paya Bay

Paya Bay is a boutique resort located on a tranquil peninsula that is remote, secluded, peaceful and far from the hustle and bustle of the busier parts of the island. The resort includes two beaches, a lagoon, an oceanside pool, two nature preserves, hiking trails, kayaks, a snorkeling boat, and even a cave. Paya Bay has 10 air conditioned ocean view cottages on 22 acres so there is always the opportunity to find a quiet spot. They have a seaside restaurant, a bar, yoga and occasional live music. Paya Bay doesn't have its own dive shop but can make arrangements for any land or water based excursions.

Mango Creek Lodge

Mango Creek lodge is an eco-tourism resort in secluded Port Royal with the reef in front and the National Park out back. Royal Playa is remote in that it is water access only, but the staff pick you up at the airport and drive you to a dock where it is only a 15 minute boat ride to the resort. Talk about leaving it all behind! Mango Creek Lodge has four cabanas that sit on stilts right on the water, and two rooms in the main lodge. Mango Creek specializes in eco-activities such a flats fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, and sailing, though they also offer boat tours of the surrounding cays and mangroves as well as dive trips. They have a bar and restaurant that serves as the center for the off-the-beaten-track Port Royal community.
