If you are considering a trip to Axum, Ethiopia, then you are apparently someone who loves an adventure and perhaps roughing it a bit. You will find a few hotels in this city; however, at best, they are modest and clean. After all, you are there for the rich history and amazing sights in this city. The ancient city of Axum dates back at least 2,000 years. According to tradition, the Queen of Sheba made Axum the capital of Ethiopia about 1,000 years before Christ. Attractions include the ancient Ethiopian Orthodox church built in the 4th century CE and the Church of St. Mary of Zion. The Church of St. Mary of Zion houses what the Ethiopian Christians believe is the original Ark of the Covenant. Although the monks do not let anyone anywhere near it, you can see the building itself, but only from a distance.

The Exodus Hotel is located on the main airport road in Axum. The front desk is open 24-hours a day. Each room has a private bathroom, telephone, and housekeeping services. Two on site restaurants serve both European and Ethiopian food.

This hotel has a few modern conveniences, such as telephone, fax and satellite television service in each guest room. Both suites and twin rooms have private bathrooms. A restaurant is on site. The Yeha Hotel is known for providing good hospitality.

The Africa Hotel is a good option for the budget-minded traveler. This hotel is in town on the main road close to the local gas station. Some rooms have a private bathroom; others do not. There is an on-site restaurant, travel agency and patio.
