The Butcher Shop
A Memphis home-town favorite since 1981, Butcher Shop opened its first location downtown at 101 S. Front Street, then opened the city's second location in the suburban Germantown/Cordova area. According to a head meat-cutter, Bob Ray, their most popular cuts are 14 ounce rib-eye, 16 ounce NY strip, and both are also offered in 20 ounce portions. Butcher Shop also serves two-inch thick filet mignons, 30 ounce porterhouses, and a 20-hr slow-cooked prime rib. Ray describes their beef cuts as prime grade, aged four weeks, and hand-cut on site. The east location is adjacent to a nature area with seasonal farmer's market, garden nursery, equine arena, hiking, biking, kayaking, sailing, an RV park and fishing if visitors want to engage in a day of activities before dinner. Prices range in the mid-upscale range.

Texas de Brazil Churrascaria
It may not be an area original, but native Memphians and tourists have embraced Texas de Brazil for special dinners, lunches and Sunday family brunches. Adjacent to the Peabody Hotel and steps from the blues music district on Beale Street, this restaurant uses the Argentinian style of open-fire grilling on steel skewers. Choices like bacon-wrapped filet mignon are offered to customers in endless processions of waiters. Meat-eaters and vegetarians may choose the unique salad bar's myriad of breads, cheeses, soups, salads, cold marinated or pickled vegetables, cold meats and seafood. The cost is upscale pre-fixed and does not include cost of beverage, dessert, gratuities or taxes. If the day's activities included Memphis' urban outdoor adventures, keep in mind this establishment has a dress code of "smart casual."
