German Restaurants in Chicago, Illinois

German Restaurants in Chicago, Illinois
Chicago's lakefront trails provide an outdoor retreat from the bustle of city life. Beyond Lake Michigan, Chicago's well-manicured parkland amid skyscrapers and expressways sets an example for the city's accommodating nature. This tolerance extends into ethnic cuisine, where German restaurant choices are in abundance. Consider purchasing German food that is high in protein and complex carbohydrates to fuel your body. German restaurants are also ideal stops for relaxing entertainment after an active day. Choose accordingly.

The Berghoff

The Berghoff is a historic restaurant located within the heart of Chicago's Loop. Herman Berghoff, a German immigrant, opened the Berghoff Cafe in 1898 at downtown Chicago to grow the market for his beer. The establishment expanded into a staple of Chicago dining over the decades, but it closed for business in 2006. However, the Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group emerged to re-open the location shortly thereafter.

Today, the Berghoff Cafe is an ideal meeting place for business professionals and tourists downtown. Weiner schnitzel and sauerbraten are the featured specialties. Expect to pay relatively high prices for food and parking, courtesy of the Loop location.
