Williamsburg Inn
The sprawling, immaculately kept, English Regency-style mansion is the most luxurious and priciest of Colonial Williamsburg's official hotels. The five-star property, ranked as one of the top hotels in the country, oozes quiet elegance. Rooms are spacious with period antiques and large, modern, marble bathrooms. The grounds are opulent (think: public garden quality); the service impeccable.

Williamsburg Lodge
Several lodging choices are offered at this sprawling, eight-building complex, which includes the main building with suites overlooking the courtyard; the more modern rooms in Tazewell Hall, including three suites with fireplaces; and four large guesthouses with 30 rooms each. The entire property is crisscrossed with covered walkways. The decor is traditional colonial colors, comfy leather chairs and American folk-art furnishings.

Providence Hall Guesthouses
The property, tucked into the woods, is a short distance from the Williamsburg Inn but totally different in ambiance and style. Rooms are quite large with a king bed and a pull-out sofa and much more contemporary than the Williamsburg Inn or Lodge. They're decorated in neutral palettes and dark woods, and each has a private patio or terrace overlooking a small pond.

Colonial Houses
If you really want to immerse yourself in 18th-century life, consider booking one of the 26 period rooms located throughout historic Colonial Williamsburg. They're all different, some a simple room in a restored building, others larger, stand-alone units. All are one-of-a-kind and come with their own stories. Remember, they're antiques so they can be quirky but a lot of fun. They all have modern amenities---like private baths.
