Vegetarian Restaurants in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Vegetarian Restaurants in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Minneapolis is well known as one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the United States. A cosmopolitan city in the heart of the Midwest, Minneapolis is home to many parks and green spaces. The grueling winters aside, Minneapolis provides excellent opportunities for cycling, jogging and urban hiking through the city's many parks. And if eating meat is not your thing, you're in luck, as Minneapolis has some of the best options for vegetarian dining on the Mississippi.

Hard Times Cafe

The Hard Times Cafe is a worker-owned and -operated restaurant on the west bank of the Mississippi River, near the university. Prices at Hard Times are cheap and menu options are plentiful. While the atmosphere and service at Hard Times are both decidedly "punk," in their approach, the food is good and it is open late. It's a great place to go to carbo-load while biking across the city. Hard Times specializes in vegan/veggie takes on traditional diner food. Be sure and try a cup of its delicious fair-trade coffee.

The Vegetarian

The Vegetarian is a family-run restaurant that specializes in North Indian, South Indian and vegan food. The menu is along the lines of what you'd find in most Indian restaurants, sans the meat items, of course. The Vegetarian has a daily lunch buffet and a good selection of Indian sweets all concocted. For a good appetizer try one of its excellent samosas.

Ecopolitan

Ecopolitan is a non-profit ecological shop and 100 percent raw food restaurant. Atmosphere at Ecopolitan is relaxed and friendly. While raw food is perhaps not for everyone, Ecopolitan has a creative menu with some surprisingly hearty options. The mushroom-walnut "burger" patty is a particular favorite. The "green burrito," wrapped in a collard green leaf, is also very tasty.

Delights of India

Yet another restaurant featuring exclusively vegetarian takes on Indian food, Delights of India features Punjabi-style Northern Indian cuisine. More than half of the menu at Delights is vegan and clearly labeled as such. The restaurant features a daily lunch buffet, perfect for a stopover while biking through the uptown district. The vegetable biryani is particularly good and for an after-dinner treat be sure and sample a cup of the soy chai.
