Starved Rock State Park is in Utica, Illinois, about 90 miles southwest of Chicago. The park, which covers 2,640 acres, features 18 canyons that were formed by glacial meltwater and erosion. The area is also known for its rare sandstone formations. Recreational opportunities at the park include 13 miles of hiking trails, and fishing and boating along the Illinois River. Starved Rock Resort, originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, features 70 lodge rooms and 13 cabins. Grizzly Jacks Grand Bear Resort

Grizzly Jacks features a 24,000-square-foot indoor water park and 36,000-square-foot indoor amusement park. Lodging options at the resort include lodge suites, two-story villas and three-story cabins. Resort amenities include a fitness center, gift shop and four dining options ranging from restaurants to snack shops.

Fox River Resort

Fox River Resort is 24 miles northeast of Starved Rock State Park. This resort features a variety of outdoor recreation, including boating, fishing, horseback riding, miniature golf and tennis.
