About halfway between Albany and Binghamton, NY, is Delaware County. The 1,468-square-mile county sits at the Western foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The rural county's seemingly endless series of mountains and hills makes it a prime destination for hikers, climbers and, during the winter, skiers.

Platekill Mountain

This family owned ski hill boasts 35 trails with three lifts. The mountain's elevate 3,500-foot mountain has 1,100 feet of vertical and gets more than 200 inches of snow per year. Tubing runs are also available.

Delaware County Historical Association

The Delaware County Historical Association makes its home in the Frisbee House, the 18th century residence of Gideon Frisbee--one of the pioneers who originally settled Delaware County. The Frisbee House sits on a plot of land with a number of other historical exhibits, including a gallery space, the Amos Wood Gunshop, an old one-room schoolhouse and blacksmith shop.

Upper Delaware Scenic Byway

Delaware County shares its name with the river which runs through it. The two branches which serve as the river's origin meet in the county, beginning the river that runs to the Delaware Bay near Wilmington, DE. The scenic byway, State Highway 97, follows the river from Hancock, NY to Port Jervis, NY in Orange County. The route is popular among motorcyclists and bicyclists, as well as nature lovers looking for a scenic drive.

Catskill Park

Catskill Park is a forest reserve located within in the mountain range. The park is a combination of public park, managed by the New York State Department of Environment Conservation and privately or municipally owned land. The park, which measures 1,120 square feet, is a natural haven, with a number of species of trees and wild animals, including more than 400 black bears.
