You won't find any kangaroos in Austria, but there are plenty of opportunities for skiing, snowboarding and hiking with an Alpine setting. Each of the five largest Austrian cities contain at least one three-star hotel, but travelers to this EU state also can visit Bad Gastein for winter sports and spas built around a thermal spring.

Senator Hotel: Vienna

The Senator Hotel is situated five kilometers from the Vienna city center and less than four kilometers from the Westbahnhof railway station. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms and suites are available, complete with a private bath and television set in 179 guest rooms. The hotel serves a breakfast buffet seven days of the week, and guests can enjoy drinks and snacks at the hotel bar. An on-site parking lot contains 41 spaces.

Hotel Novapark: Graz

The three-star Hotel Novapark in Graz provides free parking for all guests. Guest rooms include either double or queen-sized beds set aside in smoking or non-smoking rooms. Each room includes a private bathroom, television set and hair dryer. Two-room suites also are available with a private balcony. An in-house spa operates a swimming pool, saunas and vitamin bar with reduced prices for guests. The spa also advertises massages and aromatherapy services.

Hotel Wolfinger is a three-star accommodation located in the heart of the Linz old town, within walking distance of the Danube River. The hotel contains 10 single rooms and 30 double rooms in addition to two suites. The location contains an indoor car park and airport shuttle service. A night porter is on hand and staff at the front desk may assist in both English and French. Pets may stay at the Hotel Wolfinger.

Hotel Goldene Ente: Salzburg

Located inside Salzburg's old town, the Hotel Goldene Ente is a three-star accommodation within walking distance of both the baroque Salzburg Cathedral and the active shopping and pedestrian walking street called Getreidegasse. This boutique hotel offers 17 rooms with a television and hair dryer. An additional bed may be requested for a fee. Both pets and children 12 or younger stay as guests for free. An on-site restaurant serves Austrian and international cuisines with a selection of beers and wines.

Hotel Heimgartl: Innsbruck

The Heimgartl, a 19th-century hotel set at the foot of a wooded mountainside, is located within walking distance of the Innsbruck historic city center. Guests can ski and snowboard at nearby Nordpark by taking a direct railway trip. Rooms include central heating and either single or double beds. Extra beds can be made available for families and groups. This three-star hotel provides a breakfast spread and accepts MasterCard, Visa and Maestro credit cards.
