Discount Hotels in Santiago, Chile

Santiago is Chile's capital. It is highly populated, but that doesn't seem to have an effect on the array of outdoor activities available in the heart of the city. Bicycle and walking tours are commonly offered, and there is no shortage of city lookouts and urban parks. Casablanca Valley, home to many wineries, can be quickly reached from the city. Even travelers on a shoestring budget will be able to travel comfortably in Santiago. There are plenty of quality discount hotels scattered throughout the downtown.

Foresta Hotel

Central downtown's Foresta Hotel is a popular, 35-room discount hotel. Besides being clean and having an exceptionally friendly staff, the Foresta has the added perk of being just a few steps away from Cerra Santa Lucia, a 230-foot hill that offers an undisturbed view of the city. Rooms are large and cheap. According to Trip Advisor, as of November 2009, the average price of a room was $49 a night.

Hotel Vegas

Hotel Vegas is a charming hotel situated in downtown Santiago. With vintage furniture and decor and only 20 rooms, Hotel Vegas is a good option for travelers seeking an intimate, affordable place to spend the night. Less than a mile from Hotel Vegas is La Bicicleta Verde, a bike and walking tour company that also rents out bikes. Rooms are small to medium, and continental breakfast is provided. According to Trip Advisor, as of November 2009 the average price of a room was $56 a night.

Hotel Diego de Almagro Centro

Hotel Diego de Almagro Centro has standard rooms right on the main downtown street, only blocks from the Presidential Palace. The train station is conveniently located nearby, and visitors can walk to the old fish market and many downtown attractions. Rooms tend to be on the smaller side, and the hotel is usually full of international travelers--many of whom are out late. Continental breakfast is served, and tea and coffee is available during the day.
