Whirlpool State Park
Just off Robert Moses Parkway in New York, Whirlpool State Park features excellent hiking. Take the 30-minute hike down the steep steps from the parking area to see some of the most extreme rapids in the world as you head for the whirlpool. From there, choose from several nature trails or bring your line and go fishing. Bring a picnic lunch and sit at one of the picnic tables located along the rapid-filled river. You can also bike the roads in the park, and in the winter, bring your cross-country skis.

Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours
Head to this attraction to get a close-up view of Niagara Gorge from a jet boat. The tour leaves from Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario and heads down the gorge, with its 200-foot walls of rock towering above you. The boat takes you into the swirling, class five whitewater rapids known as Devil's Hole, then returns you to dock the same way. Plan to get wet--the company provides gear to keep you warm, but it does not guarantee you will keep dry, so an extra change of clothes is recommended.
