Hanover, New York, located next to Lake Erie, is a great place for people who are interested in water sports, hiking and skiing. While many stay in hotels in Utica, New York, while exploring Hanover, these hotels can often be expensive and out of the way. Thankfully, Hanover has a handful of great and relatively inexpensive hotels for all to enjoy.

Colgate Inn

Located just minutes outside of Hanover, The Colgate Inn offers guests 45 spacious rooms with a single bed, double beds or suites. Though the hotel lacks a fitness center and gym, its guests are able to use the fitness facilities at Colgate University, which is close in proximity. The Colgate Inn also has an in-house restaurant that serves lunch and dinner daily, as well as a bar that is available to rent out for private parties. The hotel also offers up its function room, which can fit up to 200 people for banquets, conferences or weddings.

The Artful Lodger

The Artful Lodger in Hanover, New York, is a boutique hotel renovated out of a federal-style building that was constructed in 1835. The hotel only has five rooms, but each is spacious and decorated differently. Each room is also relatively inexpensive, and is named after a famous New Yorker who lived in the area in the 19th century. Though the hotel does not have an in-house restaurant, guests are provided with a full hot complimentary breakfast each morning. The hotel does have other in-house amenities, however, like its gift show that sells antique American memorabilia and its library.

The Landmark Tavern

Originally built by famous 19th century lawyer James Carter Coolidge, The Landmark Tavern is famous for both its lodging and its food. Resting on the outskirts of Hanover, this establishment is a retro-hotel shaped like an octagon. It is close in proximity to New York's Baseball Hall of Fame and Boxing Hall of Fame. Guests can choose from the hotel's three types of rooms: single bed, double bed and suite. But be forewarned: single bed rooms are only available Monday through Thursday, and room rates are noticeably cheaper on the weekdays than on the weekends.

Vernon Downs

For those looking for a big hotel with excitement, there is the Vernon Downs Casino Hotel just outside of Hanover. The hotel has 173 rooms, which are all spacious suites that include refrigerators, microwave ovens and free HBO. While not enjoying the hotel's 750-game casino or its two in-house restaurants and bar, guests can check out the fitness center, Jacuzzi and indoor heated pool. For business travelers, Vernon Downs Casino Hotel has a complimentary business center, with fax and printer capabilities. The hotel is also close to the Vernon Downs Race Track, for those who are looking for a different type of gambling.
