Moran Motel
Don't let the old-fashioned façade and bright, garish green paint put you off. This mom-and-pop hotel is one of the best values in Kure Beach. The friendly, down-home atmosphere makes a stay here ultra-comfy. Rooms are white-glove-tested clean and huge, and have mini-refrigerators. Some have full kitchens or kitchenettes. Furnishings are basic but well-maintained. The location is tops; the beach and local fishing pier are right across the street. There's an outdoor pool, too. You can snag a two-room efficiency for under $90.

Kure Keys Motel
This locally-owned, no-frills motel is located across from the beach, with a flip-flop casual atmosphere and wallet-pleasing prices. The owner is nearly always on site and is willing to bend over backwards to make you happy. The retro furnishings are definitely old-fashioned (think late model TVs and 70's furniture) but everything is clean and well-maintained. There's a nice outdoor pool area with a Jacuzzi, a small deck overlooking the ocean where guests can relax and an outdoor fireplace (bring s'more-makings!) You can save on dining costs by booking one of the efficiencies with cooking facilities, or ask to rent the motel's commercial-size gas grill. There's also a guest laundry on-site. Standard room rates are $88 to $120.
