Moran Motel

Don't let the old-fashioned façade and bright, garish green paint put you off. This mom-and-pop hotel is one of the best values in Kure Beach. The friendly, down-home atmosphere makes a stay here ultra-comfy. Rooms are white-glove-tested clean and huge, and have mini-refrigerators. Some have full kitchens or kitchenettes. Furnishings are basic but well-maintained. The location is tops; the beach and local fishing pier are right across the street. There's an outdoor pool, too. You can snag a two-room efficiency for under $90.

Kure Keys Motel

This locally-owned, no-frills motel is located across from the beach, with a flip-flop casual atmosphere and wallet-pleasing prices. The owner is nearly always on site and is willing to bend over backwards to make you happy. The retro furnishings are definitely old-fashioned (think late model TVs and 70's furniture) but everything is clean and well-maintained. There's a nice outdoor pool area with a Jacuzzi, a small deck overlooking the ocean where guests can relax and an outdoor fireplace (bring s'more-makings!) You can save on dining costs by booking one of the efficiencies with cooking facilities, or ask to rent the motel's commercial-size gas grill. There's also a guest laundry on-site. Standard room rates are $88 to $120.

Seven Seas Inn

You can't beat the oceanfront location of this locally-owned, casual hotel in Kure Beach. Walk out your door and you're at the beach! The local fishing pier is just a few minutes walk away. Don't expect fancy; the rooms are bare-bones, and furnishings are plain. There's a spacious pool area with plenty of seating and a small gazebo overlooking the ocean where guests can relax. There's a variety of room styles, from efficiencies with full kitchens, two-room suites with kitchens, and simple motel rooms (these all have small refrigerators). Families can rent adjoining rooms, and can combine an efficiency with a standard room. Look online for room configurations and request your top choices when making your reservation. In-season rates range from $135 for standard rooms to $199 for efficiencies.
