Historic Hotels in Chicago
Every great city appreciates the importance of its architectural heritage, and Chicago is no exception. The following historic hotels are iconic symbols of the city's past grandeur. Carefully restored to all their Roaring Twenties glory, they sit in the heart of this thoroughly modern metropolis, and are convenient to more than a few of its top attractions.

The Palmer House Hilton Hotel

A $170 million renovation has brought the beautiful Palmer House Hotel back to its Beaux Arts (neoclassical) glory, a delight for architectural connoisseurs and the uninitiated alike. Guests can take advantage of full business services and meeting rooms, the on-premises beauty salon and florist, laundry service, foreign currency exchange and more. Spa Chakra has a fitness room and pool, which may be useful after dining on contemporary American cuisine at Lockwood, its restaurant. Otherwise, skip the treadmill and take a stroll through nearby Millennium or Grant parks, which border Lake Michigan.

Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago

The eclectically styled Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel offers ample opportunity for in-house fun. Its Crystal Ballroom features a high-domed ceiling and an illuminated dance floor that should make even the briefest trot a memorable one. Its Martini Bar has a clubby feel and snacks are served there. But with the John Hancock tower just steps away, it's hard to resist taking cocktails and appetizers at its Signature Bar instead, especially for the stunning 360-degree and 1,000-foot-high lake and city views.

Ambassador East Hotel

Service is paramount at the Ambassador East Hotel, which justifiably bills itself as the "Grande Dame of Chicago." This boutique hotel offers modern amenities in a setting of 1920s splendor. It's home to the famed Pump Room, an award winning AAA four-diamond restaurant that has been a city institution since the hotel first opened. A stone's throw from Lake Michigan, it was a favorite lodging of luminaries like Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart. Meeting facilities and a banquet hall are also available for use. The hotel's lobby famously served as the location for a scene in the classic Hitchcock thriller, North by Northwest.
