Denver's Brown Palace Hotel, opened downtown in 1892, is a Denver landmark. The 277-room, red granite hotel has earned AAA's four diamond rating. As befits a building with this much history, the Brown Palace has plenty of stories to tell...and secrets to hide. Lumber Baron Inn
The Lumber Baron Inn, located northwest of downtown Denver in the city's historic Highlands neighborhood, was built in 1890 by one of the city's leading businessmen. After falling on hard times and even being condemned by the city, the Queen Anne Victorian property was restored in the 1990s and is now a three-room bed and breakfast inn. The site of a double murder in the 1970s, the inn is said to be haunted by one of the victims, a young woman. Guests report hearing light footsteps and voices.

The Stanley Hotel--Estes Park
Located about an hour's drive from Denver, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the Stanley Hotel opened in 1909, the brainchild of transplanted Ohioan, F.O. Stanley. The 138-room hotel is still in operation and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is perhaps best noted as the inspiration for Stephen King's novel, "The Shining." Mr. Stanley is said to haunt the lobby and the billiard room, his favorite spot in life. Mrs. Stanley has been known to practice the piano in the ballroom and visitors report the piano keys moving when no one is seated at the instrument. Haunted rooms include #407, said to be occupied by the former land owner, Lord Dunraven, and #418, where children at play can be heard.
