Downtown Chicago Jazz Clubs

After spending the day sailing on Lake Michigan, running or biking the Lakefront path, or just exploring the streets of Chicago by foot, consider unwinding at one of the city's many music venues. Though well-known as a destination for blues, the Jazz Age remains alive and well in the Windy City. Downtown Chicago is home to several jazz clubs that are typically open into the wee hours of the morning. All of these clubs are easily reached via taxi or public transportation.

Andy's Jazz Club

Andy's Jazz Club is located just off of Michigan Avenue in the River North neighborhood. Andy's features live jazz performances seven days a week, with one performance beginning at 5 p.m. and a second performance beginning at 9 p.m. Cover charges vary depending on the day of the week. In addition to live music, Andy's also features a full dinner menu. Andy's Jazz Club is open Sunday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

The Green Mill

The Green Mill is located just north of downtown in the Uptown neighborhood. First opened in 1907, The Green Mill has a storied past and was once the hangout of infamous gangster Al Capone and his cronies. Cover charges vary. The Green Mill is open Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 4 a.m., Saturday 12 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 a.m.

M Lounge

M Lounge is located in the South Loop neighborhood. Live jazz is featured at this club every Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 7 to 10 p.m. Though no cover fee is charged, there is a two-drink minimum. M Lounge is open Tuesday through Thursday, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., and Friday and Saturday, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Jazz Showcase

The Jazz Showcase, located in the South Loop, offers live performances of jazz Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Admission fees vary depending on the featured artist. Admission charges must be paid in cash; credit cards are accepted at the bar only.

Katerina's

Katerina's is located in the North Center neighborhood. This eclectic Mediterranean cafe features a variety of live performances during the week, including jazz, blues and Latin music. Katerina's is open Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
