With two working lighthouses--at Cape Disappointment and North Head--the town of Long Beach, Washington, is a popular destination for beach lovers, kayakers and birdwatchers. Its most enthusiastic visitors, however, may be the kite fliers who descend on Long beach in droves to participate in the annual Washington State Kite Festival.

But Long Beach has an additional attraction for its outdoors-loving guests: It's one of Washington state's many communities with a casino--and has others close by.

The only casino actually within the Long Beach city limits, Six Card Charlie's Gambling Hall and Saloon has two poker tables and three other table games. Six Card Charlie's opens nightly at 6 pm.

Shoalwater Bay Casino

The Shoalwater Bay Casino is in Tokeland, Washington, on Willapa Bay, less than two hours north of Long Beach. The Shoalwater's blackjack and Pai Gow poker tables open daily at 2 pm.

The casino's more than 300 slots include the Rocket Gaming Gold Series, with a potential $1 million payoff. Players Club members can earn points toward buffet or gift shop purchases.

Tokeland and the casino are bout 20 minutes south of Grayland Beach State Park, a magnet for kite-flying enthusiasts, fishers, clammers and beachcombers.

Lucky Eagle Casino

With a luxury hotel, four restaurants, nearly 800 slots, bingo five days a week and 26 table games, the 30,000-square-foot Lucky Eagle Casino is in Rochester, two and a half hours northeast of Long Beach.

Run by the Chehalis tribe of Native Americans, who have lived in this part of Washington state for hundreds of years, the Lucky Eagle is one of a handful of Washington casinos to offer late-surrender blackjack.

This means that if, after the dealer checks his own hand for blackjack, you aren't satisfied with your original two-card hand, you can have half your bet returned.

Cadillac Island Casino

Less than two hours southeast of Long Beach at the confluence of the Columbia and Cowlitz rivers, Longview is one place where you can still see ash from the 1981 Mount Saint Helens volcanic eruption, along the banks of the Cowlitz.

The Cadillac Island Casino in Longview has eight table games, a three-table poker room and a pool hall. The nightclub has a deejay spinning Top 40 hits beginning at 9 pm every Friday and Saturday.

The Cadilllac Island's Crazy Grille serves breakfast, appetizers, hot dogs and burgers, tacos, sandwiches and entrees, including New York strip steak with shrimp scampi.

The Cadillac Island Casino is open daily from 9 am to 7 am.
