Old Downtown Hotels in Reno

Old Downtown Hotels in Reno
Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to Reno. The northern Nevada city is known as "America's Adventure Place." Gambling was legalized in the state in 1931, after which Reno began to fill up with hotel/casino establishments. Centered in the downtown area---which focuses on the blocks between First through Fourth streets along both Sierra and Virginia streets---are a handful of properties with histories that span many decades. You'll not only enjoy their storied pasts, but will appreciate their modern recreational amenities.

Harrah's Reno

Located in the heart of downtown off Center Street, this 25-story, 928-room hotel has a history that dates back to 1946. That was when Bill Harrah, who was known for operating bingo parlors, originally opened the property, which he'd called Harrah's Club. It was one of the first hotel/casinos in Reno. Today, the resort boasts a 60,000-square-foot casino, headliner entertainment in Sammy's Showroom and seven fine restaurants. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the spa and health club or taking a dip in the pool.
