East Indian Restaurants in Edmonton, Alberta

East Indian Restaurants in Edmonton, Alberta
Canada may not be the first country that comes to most people's minds when they think of great places to get Indian food, but given the wealth of first-rate choices in Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton, perhaps it should be. Edmonton boasts a wide array of outdoor activities on the outer fringes of the city proper; from camping on Elk Island Retreat, to canoeing on the North Saskatchewan or Athabasca River, to hiking through the massive Jasper National Park. For the outdoor sports enthusiast who finds himself in Edmonton, locating a decent-to-fantastic East Indian restaurant in the city will be extremely easy. The additional good news is that the three top-rated East Indian restaurants in Edmonton are all very affordable.

Daawat

Daawat is easily the most well-known East Indian restaurant in Edmonton. While the dessert section of the menu may be a bit short, the number of items listed in the appetizer, entree, breads and side dishes sections more than make up for it. Daawat offers numerous choices for meat lovers, seafood fans and strict vegetarians alike. The restaurant also serves alcohol, including an impressively large array of local beers and imported beers from all over the world.

Indian Grill & Banquet

The Indian Grill & Banquet has been a popular mainstay eatery in Edmonton for the last 17 years. The menu offers classic East Indian dishes, as well as fusion meals, with budget-minded entrees costing well under $20, as of the fall of 2009. As with Daawat, there are plenty of vegetarian options available. For large parties, the Indian Grill & Banquet has a banquet hall which seats well over 100 people. They are available for catering, as well as delivery and take-out.

New Asian Village

Hotel Restaurant Magazine recently declared New Asian Village one of the best ethnic restaurants in Canada. For those who want a more private and exotic dining experience, maharaja rooms are available at no extra charge. The maharaja rooms at New Asian Village are for small groups of two to six, and are decorated in silk tapestries, which separate the rooms from the rest of the dining area. The menu has an equal representation of meat-based and vegetarian fare, and a daily buffet is offered as well. There are four New Asian Village locations in Edmonton.
