Las Vegas Five-Diamond Hotels

Las Vegas Five-Diamond Hotels
Each year, AAA bestows its prestigious Five Diamond Award to hotels in North America. As of 2009, AAA awarded 60,000 hotels and restaurants the Diamond designation. Of those, 0.27 percent earn the Five Diamond Award. Five Diamond hotels must be at the pinnacle of luxury, service, amenities and comfort, according to AAA. AAA rates five hotels in Las Vegas as Five Diamond properties, and each property is within an hour's drive of a number of outdoors havens, including Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston.

Bellagio

Opened in October 1998, the Bellagio might be best known for its fountains, which famously "dance" to music in front of the massive hotel and casino. Inside, the hotel has the same opulent touches--the hotel lobby ceiling is filled with 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers, giving a modern twist to stained glass. Marble and high-end technology are standard fare in each hotel room, where guests are treated to twice-daily housekeeping. Each room has a soaking tub, so outdoors enthusiasts can soothe sore muscles.

Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas

Guests won't find neon signs pointing the way to the Four Seasons, but this hotel is right in the heart of the action, located at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. The property--which has no casino--is located on the top five floors of Mandalay Bay. Built in 1999, the Four Seasons is smaller than most Strip hotels; it has 424 guest rooms. Each room includes separate shower and bathtub, and high-speed Internet access is standard.

Skylofts at the MGM Grand

The Skylofts sit atop the MGM Grand. With two-story windows, rooms have views of the Strip as well as the mountains and desert. Skylofts' 51 rooms don't come cheap--as of 2009, basic room rates for one night started at $600--but each room is equipped with the latest technology and amenities, including steam bath and shower, infinity spa tub and a "personal concierge." Room sizes vary, but the smallest is 1,400 square feet--ample space for storing sporting equipment.

The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino

Inside and out, the Venetian is unmistakably Italian. Venice-inspired canals--complete with singing gondoliers--draw attention, but the hotel, which opened in 1999, plays more subtly on the theme. Each guest suite (there are no "rooms") is decorated using Italian marble, fabrics and crown molding. Outdoors enthusiasts looking to stay in can take advantage of the 40-foot rock climbing wall, located on the Venetian's garden rooftop.

Wynn Las Vegas

When Vegas mogul Steve Wynn opened his lavish hotel in 2005, he brought the outdoors inside. His hotel contains a man-made mountain and waterfalls. A man-made lake and garden greet guests when they check in or out. Rooms are spacious, averaging 640 square feet, and they feature beds with pillow-top mattresses and bedside draperies. After a long day on the trails, hikers can treat themselves to in-room massages and pedicures. The Wynn also features the only 18-hole golf course on the Strip.
