Inexpensive Hotels in Bora Bora

Inexpensive Hotels in Bora Bora
Bora Bora, known as the most decadent of the French Polynesian islands, is not a frugal travel destination. Deemed the "Pearl of the Pacific," this island attracts many of the world's rich and famous to its white sand beaches and crystal blue shores. Even low-end hotels on Bora Bora are overpriced compared to other French Polynesian islands, so any hotel under $250 a night is considered inexpensive. Look at two-star and three-star hotels to find reasonable rates, and if those are still beyond your budget, consider staying in a family-run pension or camping instead.

Hotel Maitai Polynesia

Located on the southern tip of the island near Matira Point, Hotel Maitai Polynesia is just five miles from the village of Vaitape. The 74 bungalows have traditional Polynesian thatched roofs and some are suspended over the aqua blue water of the hotel's private beachfront. All bungalows have mini fridges and cable TV, and Internet access is available for a surcharge. There are two restaurants and a bar on site, and the hotel's tour desk can arrange diving, snorkeling, lagoon cruises, island tours and shopping trips. There are full banquet and wedding facilities available with prior booking. Every Wednesday night the hotel has an entertainment night complete with Polynesian dancing and a seafood buffet.

All bungalows have either a beach, garden or lagoon view, and all are equipped with ceiling fan, electric kettle and fridge. The two-family bungalows sleep up to five and include a fully equipped kitchen with freezer. There are no restaurants on site, but you can request a breakfast basket to be served to your bungalow. The hotel's tour desk can arrange excursions, boat trips to neighboring islands, water sports and diving, hiking trips, helicopter rides, jet-ski rentals and parasailing. There are discounted Internet rates available through the hotel's website.

All bungalows have either a lagoon view or a mountain view, and are set amidst fruit trees. Bungalows have teak flooring and are made in the traditional Polynesian fashion. Hotel rates include airport shuttle boat, bike usage, beach and supermarket shuttles, and wired Internet.
