Chinatown, New York Restaurants

Chinatown, New York Restaurants
Step into New York's Chinatown district and you'll travel across the globe to the rugged terrain of Beijing and the busy streets of Shanghai. Despite all there is to do and see in New York City, from the vast trails of Central Park to the shows on Broadway, adventurous travelers will not want to miss the opportunity to explore and uncover the treasures of Chinatown.

Mandarin Court

Found on Chinatown's busiest street, Mandarin Court is known for dim sum, fresh spring rolls and steady stream of patrons. With fresh dumplings (served with traditional sauces), vegetables and a variety of great desserts (green tea ice cream is popular), Mandarin Court is a favorite amongst tourists and locals alike. While Mandarin Court isn't fancy (Chinese paintings are sparsely dispersed around the restaurant), it does offer great tasting, affordable food (expect to spend $7 to $16 per entrée) just steps from the hustle and bustle in the heart of Chinatown.

Big Wong King

A Chinatown staple for more than 30 years, Big Wong King offers authentic Cantonese cuisine at affordable prices (entrees range from $4 to $20). With almost 100 combinations of noodles, meats, and fresh seafood and vegetables to choose from, visitors can design their own plate or choose from a variety of Big Wong favorites. This no-frills restaurant is usually crowded, but the skilled chefs are known for their speed and consistency, making it ideal for diners who've spent the day exploring the city and don't want to wait too long for a great meal.

Oriental Garden

Featuring traditional Chinese décor (brass ornaments and Chinese lanterns tastefully line the simply painted walls), Oriental Garden offers patrons a relaxing, intimate atmosphere in the midst of Chinatown. Although Oriental Garden can be a bit pricey (entrees range from $16 to $30), diners agree that the exceptionally fresh seafood (pulled from the restaurant's tanks) and elegantly presented meals are worth it.

Doyers Vietnamese Restaurant

Chinatown isn't just for Chinese cuisine anymore. Some of New York's best places for Vietnamese food are located just outside of the heart of Chinatown. Located underground on historic Doyers Street, visitors must embark on a treasure hunt to find this gem of a restaurant. While the décor is dated (the walls are covered in wood paneling and 1980s wallpaper), Doyers Vietnamese Restaurant features crisp salads complimented by fresh meats and seafood, grilled vegetables and meats served on top of handmade noodles, and a variety of sauces that range from sweet to tangy to fiery. With prices ranging from $6 to $20, patrons are sure to find something on the menu to tantalize the taste buds.
