Laurel is a city that is in the southern American state of Mississippi. It is part of Jones County, and is one of its county seats (along with the city of Ellisville). It is in southeastern Mississippi (just southeast of the state capital, which is Jackson), and has a population of almost 20,000 individuals, according to City-Data.com. The city has been in existence since 1882, and started out as a lumber town. There are various recreational activities to partake in while in Laurel, most notably boating and skiing, which can be done at Lake Bogue Homa.
