Salta, Argentina Hotels

Salta, Argentina Hotels
Salta is a lovely old city that sits in the center of a largely rural region of northwest Argentina. The location means that it has more in common with Bolivia than Buenos Aires, and it is one of the few places in Argentina where you will see plenty of people of Indian heritage. The city and its hotels are arguably the best base for jumping off to explore the Argentine northwest, with its gorges, high mountains and Andean deserts.

Hotel Solar de la Plaza

This 30-room, four-star hotel is tastefully decorated with regional wood, alpaca and iron craft work. Every room has Internet access and satellite TV. The facilities include a rooftop fitness center with sauna and swimming pool, as well as a restaurant and separate bar and lounge. The hotel staff can help you get organized for hiking, bird watching and rafting excursions.

House of Jasmines

This boutique hotel is set in a century-old estate house between the town center and the airport. There are only seven rooms and three suites, which gives the place a small, cozy, country feel. The restaurant would be better described as an old-fashioned kitchen, serving traditional dishes with salads drawn from the hotel's own garden. They have a spa in a separate building and an outdoor swimming pool with views of the Andes.

Bloomer's Bed and Brunch

This hotel is run by a friendly and outgoing British-Dutch couple, making it a magnet for like-minded travelers. The house has five bedrooms, each with a flat-screen satellite TV and brunch (rather than breakfast) is included in the room rate. There is a sun deck on the roof, as well as a nice patio and garden. The latter includes its own barbecue, so you can try your hand at making a parilla-style Argentine steak dinner if you wish.
