Hudson Valley, New York Hotels
New York State's Hudson Valley follows the Hudson River from just above New York City all the way to Albany, the state capital. America's wealthiest families once prized this area as a summer home location. Today the Hudson Valley is an all-season magnet for outdoor lovers, with more than 40 State Parks and nearly 70 State Forests. Hiking, cycling and mountain biking, fishing and skiing opportunities are never far from the Hudson Valley's hotels.

Castle on the Hudson

Half an hour north of New York City, this 45-room, 1910 castle--complete with turrets--sits on a bluff with priceless Hudson River views. Climb the steps of its tower, and you'll be standing at the highest place in all of Westchester County.

Sparing nothing in terms of luxury, the Castle also has plenty to satisfy active guests. A 30 by 60 foot outdoor pool with Jacuzzi and bar, tennis courts, life-sized chess games and 24-hour fitness center are only the beginning.

The Castle is less than two miles from the hiking, biking and fishing at Rockefeller State Park Preserve. The Preserve's 1,200 acres include wetlands, meadows and woodlands with sweeping river views where Rockwood Hall, William Rockefeller's estate, once stood.

All rooms feature Direct TV and in-room movies with stereo sound, high-speed Internet, Frette bed linens and down comforters, and mini bars. Tower suites have fireplaces, four-poster beds and marble baths.

Mohonk Mountain House

A study in Victorian architectural charm, the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz is about 90 minutes north of New York City. Set on 2,200 acres of gardens and woodlands, the hotel has more than 80 miles of hiking and 40 miles of mountain biking trails, its own golf course and tennis courts, and a private lake with boating, canoeing, swimming and fishing.

The indoor pool, rock-climbing wall, ice skating rink and fitness center provide cold weather exercise, as do the 30 miles of cross-country skiing trails. Room prices include three meals and afternoon tea with cookies each day. Fresh American cuisine with seasonal local ingredients is the resort's specialty.

Rooms have high-speed Internet access, but televisions are available only in the hotel's public rooms.

The Inn at Green River

Following a breakfast the New York Times has called a "feast," guests at the northern Hudson Valley's Inn at Green River have their choice of outdoor activities. In Columbia County, 15 minutes from the Berkshire Hills town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the 19th-century seven-room Inn overlooks a meadow and tumbling creek on its way to the Green River.

The Inn is only four miles from the extensive hiking, mountain biking trails and cross-country skiing at Taconic State Park, with its breathtaking views around Rudd Pond and Copake Falls. The Park's Bish Bash Brook and Pit Pond are known for their trout.

Wi-Fi is available in the Inn's library and dining room.
