Vicksburg is a historic old town situated on the banks of the Mississippi River in the west-cetnral part of the state. With a tourist industry geared around the tradition of riverboat and Vicksburg has the reputation of being the gambling center of Mississippi. However, the town is also a great base for fishing or canoeing on the backwaters of the Mississippi, and the Civil War battlefield park that rings the eastern side of the old city is a worthwhile visit. The casinos of Vicksburg can make for a great night's diversion after a day of fishing or the capstone to a day trip elsewhere in the state.

Part of a small national chain of hotel-casinos, the Vicksburg Ameristar's 70,000-square-foot riverboat casino is among the largest in the city. It has 1,800 slot machines and 36 table games, not including a separate 10-table poker room. The tastefully appointed 4-star hotel has flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi in every room, along with a complimentary morning USA Today. Diamond Jacks Casino

Diamond Jacks' 30,000-square-foot casino is situated on the Vicksburg riverfront, though it is not a classic "riverboat casino." Nonetheless, it features a full array of gaming, including slot machines, blackjack, poker, roulette and craps. The casino's hotel has 122 rooms and suites, each room equipped with Internet data ports. There is a swimming pool, hot tub, 2 restaurants and a coffee shop.

Horizon Casino

Horizon is located near a river channel, a bit away from the main body of the Mississippi and closer to the center of old Vicksburg. The hotel extends down to the water and a 36,000-square-foot riverboat casino. There are 750 slot machines and video gambling games, as well as traditional table games like blackjack and craps. The hotel has 117 rooms and a buffet restaurant.
