Mendoza is a major city situated in the western central fringe of Argentina, among the foot hills of the Andes. The city sits in the heart of the Argentine wine country, and enjoys good access to glacial Andean lakes, deep forests and high mountains. The latter includes Anconcagua, which at 22,841 feet is the highest mountain to be found outside of Asia. Well developed for tourism, Mendoza and its hotels makes for a good base for rural tourism and a range of outdoor adventures.

Grand Hotel Balbi

This nice three-star hotel is located in the Mendoza city center. The hotel has a cafeteria with a breakfast buffet and that serves sandwiches and snacks through the rest of the day. The cafeteria also doubles as a bar. The rooms are spacious, and the hotel has a swimming pool with a terrace.

Park Hyatt Mendoza

This outpost of the Hyatt chain is arguably the top hotel in Mendoza. A hotel footnote is that this is where Juan and Eva Peron stayed shortly after first meeting in 1944. All rooms have Wi-Fi Internet, flat-screen TVs with DVD players and iPod docks. The hotel entertainment includes three restaurants and three bars, as well as its own casino with slot machines, video gambling machines and table games like poker and roulette. The hotel also has a full spa with sauna, Turkish steam bath, fitness center, Jacuzzi and outdoor swimming pool.

Hotel Aconcagua

This hotel offers both rooms and suites, all of which have cable TV and Internet access. For a modest extra fee, you can get a room with an excellent view of the Andes Mountains. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool with poolside bar, its own garden and a spa with fitness center and sauna. The hotel restaurant includes a quiet outdoor terrace.

Cavas Wine Lodge

If you have ventured to Mendoza to see the wine country, then at least part of your trip should be spent outside of the city and at one of the area's bodega hotels. The lodge sits on a 35-acre vineyard and has great views of the snow-capped Andes. There are 14 rooms, each with DirecTV, a private swimming pool and a terrace. Eight of these rooms have Internet access. The restaurant's menu rotates every three months so that it can remain firmly based on seasonal, organic produce. The lodge has a spa with a gym, sauna and Jacuzzi.
