San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica, is one of the most renowned adventure travel destinations in the world. Visitors can tour Mayan ruins, participate in water sports, go rock climbing and hiking, and also explore waterfalls, volcanoes, mountains and rain forests. Most San Jose hotels are convenient to outdoor adventures, and some even arrange excursions throughout the country. There are also a number of hotels near the city's airport that are still convenient to both adventure and general tourist attractions.

Hotel El Rodeo is a four-star independently-owned country inn within 10 minutes driving distance of San Jose's airport. Those who want something more adrenalin-pumping than the on-site golf and tennis offerings will not be disappointed, as the hotel can arrange a number of outdoor excursions. Choices available include a half-day volcano tour, river rafting adventures, waterfall gardens, hanging bridges, and rain forests. As of October 2009, nightly room rates started at about $75 USD.

The Costa Rica Marriott Hotel San Jose is part of an international luxury hotel chain. Besides its proximity to the usual constellation of Costa Rican outdoor adventures and the capital city's airport, guests of the hotel can also enjoy a convenient driving distance to Lankester Botanical Gardens as well as parks on the outskirts of San Jose. The property is located on a 30-acre coffee plantation and was voted one of the best in Central America and Mexico by Conde Nast. As of October 2009, nightly room rates started at about $180 USD.
