Hotel Hortus
The Hotel Hortus is a small tourist hotel in the heart of Amsterdam. While the Hotel offers limited amenities such as a small computer lab and light breakfast offerings, it is suitable for short stays for people on a budget. The hotel offers 1 bathroom and 1 shower per floor, so expect to share with other guests. The rooms are kept clean, but they have old fixtures and are in need of upgrade. The The hotel isn't suitable for those with disabilities or trouble walking up stairs, as there is no elevator and the stairs leading to each floor become progressively narrower as you climb. The stairs are very steep, though young able-bodied guests may find this no problem. Guests are allowed to smoke marijuana in the hotel, though, so be prepared for that if you stay at the Hortus.

Ideal for the outdoor enthusiast, the Hotel het Tolhuus offers guests the opportunity to enjoy both water and land activities. Situated right on the water, about a half-hour car trip from Amsterdam, the Hotel het Tolhuus allows guests to make their own way. The hotel staff can recommend local biking trips to nearby cities such as Edam and Hoorn, and during tulip season, these towns are the places to be. The Hotel het Tolhuus sits on land reclaimed from the sea, and is directly on the water only a few miles from Amsterdam. While it can be difficult to reach unless guests have access to a car, for those adventurous bikers in the travel world it is an excellent stopover. The rooms at the Hotel het Tolhuus are very basic, but do include private bathrooms and shower facilities, and many rooms have doors which open onto an outdoor terrace. The 40 rooms at the Hotel het Tolhuus do not come with included breakfast, but there is both a restaurant and bar at the hotel for those who enjoy a nightcap.

Hotel Staten
The Staten Hotel in The Hague is perfectly situated for outdoor activities. While the hotel is located in the middle of The Hague, it is less than 1 mile from the sea, and makes an excellent stopover on a tour through The Netherlands. The Staten is family-owned, and the staff are always willing to point guests in the right direction and help them find the activities they're looking for. The Staten offers breakfast for guests as well, and the breakfast is both tasty and abundant.
