Al's Breakfast
A tiny 14-seat greasy spoon in the Dinkytown neighborhood, Al's Breakfast is a University of Minnesota classic. Al's has some of the best (and cheapest) pancakes and waffles in Minneapolis. Al's is open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. The best time to visit is during the week; expect a long wait on Saturday and Sunday morning. The front of the restaurant is easy to spot, since the whole place is only 10 feet wide. It's best to park and walk--Al's is on the West side of 14th Avenue.

The Bad Waitress
Located on "Eat Street" in Minneapolis, The Bad Waitress is a trendy cafe that features diner food and breakfast all day. The food is fantastic and fairly inexpensive (breakfast is about $8), though the service can be slow, especially on weekends. Options include omelets and scrambles made from organic eggs, as well as a chorizo hash and plenty of pancakes. The Bad Waitress is open until midnight daily.

Victor's 1959 Cafe
Though the owner is Greek, Victor's 1959 Cafe serves a Cuban-American brand of breakfast. Try the corn pancakes or anything with their guava jam. Victor's is open for breakfast Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The wait is long on the weekends, so arrive early. Victor's 1959 Cafe was featured on the Food Network.

Tillie's Bean
Tillie's Bean is a coffee shop that serves up cheap and simple breakfast foods. It's a great place to stop if you are in a rush to get out of town quickly. The Nicollet Avenue location is close to both Interstate 35W and Interstate 94. The warm and welcoming atmosphere makes up for the short and predictable menu. Most menu items cost less than $5.
