Hotels Near Beale Street in Memphis
Beale Street is known as both the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock and roll. It was once a busy street where commerce was conducted and riverboats unloaded at one end, while the beautiful people lived in upscale neighborhoods at the other. From the turn of the 20th century until the late 1940s, the street was the place to go for night clubs, gambling and music. Performers who played on Beale Street ranged from W.C. Handy to Louis Armstrong and B.B. King. Today, visitors to Memphis tour Beale Street for its history, music clubs and "Memphis Style" barbecue.

The Peabody Hotel

The Peabody Memphis was the first of this famous hotel chain. It is widely known for the ducks that live in the lobby fountain and take part in a grand processional to and from their personal penthouse hotel room every day. According to The Peabody Hotel, in 1933 the hotel's general manager placed three live hunting duck decoys into the hotel's fountain as a joke. The hotel's patrons enjoyed this so much that the ducks remained, and have become symbolic of the hotel chain.

Amenities include a hotel athletic club, swimming pool and spa, room service, laundry, catering, conference center facilities, business center, hotel parking and licensed babysitting services. Lobby merchants include a day spa and salon; upscale clothing boutique; duck-themed memorabilia store; antiques gallery; Fed-Ex store; gift shop; two restaurants; a lobby bar; and a corner bar. Sunday brunch and afternoon tea are both served at The Peabody.
