Hotels in Nanaimo, BC, Canada
Now known as the Harbor City, central Vancouver Island's town of Nanaimo was once an important coal mining site. In the shadow of 3,280-foot Mt. Benson with its challenging hiking and biking trails, Nanaimo also has the world's largest artificial reef system for divers. Snorkeling, kayaking and simple beach combing are other possibilities. Fossil hunters will love Ammonite Falls.

Nanaimo's hotels are the portals to both the town's and Vancouver Island's spectacular natural attractions.

Coast Bastion Inn

Overlooking the downtown harbor, Nanaimo's Coast Bastion Inn is only two miles from the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal. Even the ground-floor rooms have ocean views. Other room amenities include a work desk, Wi-Fi, voice mail, coffee maker with coffee, hot chocolate and tea, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, cable TV and air conditioning.

The Inn welcomes pets for an additional fee. The Inn has an on-site fitness center, and guests can use the nearby Aquatic Center for a small fee. Bike storage is available for those who want to test the Mt. Benson slopes.

The Inn's Minnoz Restaurant and Lounge has four fireplaces to take the chill from the Vancouver nights, and a menu featuring fresh caught local seafood. Half-price tapas are a weekday lounge favorite between 4 and 6 p.m.
