Norman Wells, is a small village of about 1,000, located in the Northern Territories of Canada close to the Arctic Circle. It is on one of the largest rivers in the world, the Mackenzie River, and close to the Canadian Rockies. The Mackenzie Valley wilderness is an outdoor lovers' paradise with fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and snow skiing in the mountains. The Mountain River, which runs into the Mackenzie River, offers whitewater rafting or canoeing, and the 200-mile Canol Heritage Trail is one of the most remote hiking trails in the world.

The Mackenzie Valley Hotel is the largest hotel in Norman Wells with 57 guest rooms. It's on the banks of the Mackenzie River and close to the city's historical center.
