Berea, located in central Kentucky, is a town of around 10,000 residents, according to the 2000 U.S. Census. It is best known as the home of Berea College, founded in 1855, the first integrated and co-educational college in the southern United States. Today, Berea College is noted for producing uniquely-American arts and crafts, which the college sells to off-set tuition costs. The area is also home to hiking trails in a range of difficulty levels in Berea College Forest and Daniel Boone Forest.
