According to the 2000 census, the capital city of Sacramento is only the seventh largest city in California. Capitol Park in downtown Sacramento is the site of the California state Capitol building. Hotels in the surrounding area have picturesque views of this historical government building modeled after the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Hyatt Regency

The Hyatt Regency is on the street bordering the north side of Capitol Park, with views of the California state Capitol building from rooms and suites. Guest rooms have either two double beds or one king-size bed with pillow-top mattresses. Wireless Internet access is available for a daily fee. Valet or self-parking in a safe and covered lot is available at hourly and overnight rates. The Regency's restaurant, Dawson's, serves dinner for business casual crowds.

Guests can walk roughly 600 feet from the Sheraton Grand to the state Capitol building. The Sheraton offers a king or two double beds in nonsmoking guest rooms and Internet access for a charge. The Residence Inn is one block from the capitol building and offers on-site parking for hotel guests at a daily charge. The 235 suites in the 15-floor Marriott are nonsmoking. Citizen Hotel

The Citizen Hotel in Sacramento stands three blocks from the state Capitol building and across the street from City Hall. This boutique hotel contains 198 rooms and suites with variations in architecture and features. Deluxe guest rooms have a queen-size bed, LCD television and iPod docking station. Room service is available to guests, and a complimentary wine hour is served on some days. The hotel's Grange restaurant cooks up organic meats and local produce from the Central Valley.
