Hostels in Cork, Ireland

There are a few things for the outdoorsy traveler to see and do in Cork, Ireland. The city is a good base for such sites as the Beara Peninsula, filled with historical remnants, as well as lakes and mountains. Beara Peninsula offers Beara Way, a walking trail and cycling route. Cork is also right by the Ring of Kerry, which encompasses a national park and lakes. Just because you like to play outside doesn't mean you have to sleep outside though. There are a few hostels in Cork for travelers on a budget.

Brú Hostel

Billing itself as the most modern hostel in Cork, the Brú Hostel does have a few impressive modern amenities. Features include free high-speed Internet, a TV/DVD room, a self-service kitchen, pressurized showers, an on-site laundry facility, free luggage and bicycle service and free breakfast. The Brú Bar is on-site, serving up a full bar service with beer and cocktails.

Right in the city center, the Brú Hostel is near both the main bus station and the main train station, making it easy to get anywhere in the city.

Sheila's Hostel

Also located in downtown Cork, Sheila's hostel is a family-operated hostel that is a few minutes walk to both the bus and train stations, as well as many of Cork's pubs, shops and restaurants.

Free wireless and wired Internet is available in the hostel lounge and the cinema room features a 42-inch plasma TV and beanbag chairs where movies are screened daily for guests.

Bags can be left in the hostel storage room while guests are out sightseeing. There are also safety deposit boxes available for rent at the front desk for more valuable items.

Aaran House Tourist Hostel

Right by Cork's main train station, and just a short walk from the bus station, is the Aaran House Tourist Hostel. Free wireless Internet is available throughout the property, including the lobby and guest rooms. Amenities include on-site bicycle rentals, bicycle and luggage storage, a common room and guest self-service kitchen. Weekly rates are available for those guests who will be staying for an extended period.
