Basiano is a small municipality in the Province of Milan, located in the northern region of Italy. It is centrally located approximately 25 km (15.5 miles) from the bustling city of Milan. With convenient and inexpensive transportation moving between the cities, visitors to the quiet area of Basiano are never far from something to do. Milan is known as a fashion capital of the world, but they also love their sports. Football and cycling are extremely popular, as is anything having to do with the water. Youth Hostel Piero Rotta

An excellent base for discovering the Basiano region, Piero Rotta is an inexpensive part of the Hostelling International association. It offers guests single sex rooms of two, three, four or six beds. The biggest hostel in Milan with 360 beds, they almost always have a place to stay for visitors. They offer guests free Internet access, a common room and bed linen for no additional charge. Starting at about 21 Euro ($32) per person, per night (as of 2009), guests can enjoy a breakfast buffet for no charge, free parking and 24-hour reception. While staying at Piero Rotta, visit Milan's 80,000 seat football arena, or cool off at Lake Garda with swimming, kayaking or windsurfing. Several places around town rent bikes for tours, there are also nearby tennis courts, swimming pools and jogging trails.

Mercurio Hostel

Each of Mercurio's 19 rooms contains a private bathroom, telephone and wireless Internet. Guests are offered linens, towels and breakfast with the cost of their room fee. There is parking on the premises at no charge, as well as conveniently located bars and restaurants. Located near the southern end of Milan, the hostel serves as a convenient base for exploring the Lombardy region. Villa Olmo Hostel

A smaller hostel located less than two miles (three km) from the border of Switzerland, this hostel is central to the Lombardy region, particularly the tourist center of Como. This is Italy's most well-known tourist spot and the largest lake in the region. It is popular for water sports including sailing, swimming, snorkeling and diving. The hostel provides guests with bike rentals, a book exchange and no charge breakfasts. The rooms are single sex dorm style and prices vary depending on the season. Average cost per person, per night is €16 ($23). Guests are also centrally located to transportation leading to the city center of Milan and its many attractions.
