Famous London Hotels

Famous London Hotels
Home to three major airports, London is the air traffic hub of Great Britain and the gateway to the outdoor adventures that await there. Whether it be hiking in Wales, fishing in the Lake District or diving wrecks in Scapa Flow, you will almost certainly pass through London on your way to or from wherever you go. A good way to wind down any demanding trip is with a touch of luxury, and London is well equipped with internationally-renowned hotels for the purpose.

The Dorchester

This well-known five-star hotel is renowned as arguably the leading hotel for the rich and famous in London. It has hosted the stars of Hollywood and countless world leaders since the 1930s. The hotel boasts that its Italian marble, art deco-style bathrooms have the deepest tubs in the city. Epitomizing the hotel's reputation for good service are three roof suites known as the Audley, the Terrace and the Harlequin. Each suite features its own spacious roof terrace and has an assigned staff of butlers to tend to your every need. Afternoon tea at the Dorchester's Promenade is prestigious enough that it comes as a reservations-recommended daily event. The hotel also has a cafe, bar and separate grill, as well as a Chinese and a French restaurant. There is a spa and fitness center, access to Wi-Fi Internet and dual voltage outlets.

The Lanesborough

This hotel is situated off Hyde Park across from the one-time home of the Duke of Wellington. Contributing to the hotel's status is its Royal Suite, which is reputed to be the most expensive hotel room in London at 8,000 pounds per night. Every one of the Lanesborough's 1820s-style rooms comes with its own complimentary laptop and Wi-Fi access. A complimentary fruit basket and bottle of mineral water is also provided every day, along with free coffee and tea if you request a wake-up call. They have a gourmet restaurant and library bar and serve afternoon tea. The hotel also has a spa.

The Connaught

The Connaught completed an extensive renovation in December 2007, and its new style blends Euro-modernism with art deco touches to achieve a look that is all its own. Its re-opening made it one of the most talked-about hotels in London, with reviews and awards from magazines including Home and Garden, Time Out, Conde Nast, Departures and Travel and Leisure. The white marble bathrooms come with enameled iron bath tubs, and every room is decorated with original artwork. Each room also comes with a iPod dock and flat-screen TV. Complimentary fresh fruit, fresh flowers and a bottle of mineral water are delivered every day. Guests also receive complimentary tea upon arrival. The hotel has two bars, a bistro and a gourmet restaurant.
