Hotels & Motels on Savannah Beach

Hotels & Motels on Savannah Beach
Oaks festooned with layers of Spanish moss shade horse-drawn carriages bearing tourists past stately Savannah mansions. Bike paths running past hundreds of authentically restored homes in a rainbow of colors add to the charm. Just minutes away on Tybee Island is Savannah's three-mile beach, one of the most relaxing stretches of sand on the Atlantic seaboard. Vacation at one of the Savannah beach hotels and motels for a taste of real Southern living.

Ocean Plaza Beach Resort

Just steps from the beach and built on the same site where the Hotel Tybee stood for nearly 50 years, the newly-renovated Ocean Plaza Beach Resort has two outdoor pools, one with a pool bar. All rooms have private balconies with ocean or island views, WiFi and high speed internet access and voice mail.

Hiking or biking along the island beachfront will whet your appetite for the hotel's Oceanfront Restaurant's Friday and Saturday Seafood Buffet. When you're tired of pedaling or treading on sand, head for historic Fort Pulaski and 5,600 acres of wildlife-rich uplands and marsh with more hiking and biking trails.

DeSoto Beach Hotel

Its porthole windows and tile roof evoke the romance of an earlier time, when Tybee Island was a playground for the wealthy. The amenities at the DeSoto Beach Hotel, however, are 21st-century in every respect. Its 37 renovated rooms have microwaves, refrigerators, cable TV and WiFi.

If you don't want to walk the 15 feet from the hotel to the beach for a swim, cool off in the beachfront swimming pool or laze on its sundeck. Spend an afternoon exploring the island's marshes on a guided kayak tour before heading around the corner to MacElwee's Seafood House for freshly caught seafood prepared Southern style.

Royal Palm Motel

Only 500 feet from Tybee Island's Savannah beach and a 10-minute drive from Fort Pulaski, the Royal Palm Motel offers affordable family-friendly accommodations with in-room refrigerators and cable TV. This older motel is immaculately maintained, with a sparkling pool and lovely landscaping.

The Royal Palm is just over a mile from the historic Tybee Island Lighthouse. If the walk there doesn't tire you, the climb up the lighthouse's 178 steps might, but the island view at the top is worth the effort.

The Marlin Marina and a deep sea fishing charter are waiting across the island on Chatham Avenue. Head south from the motel on Butler, then turn right on 12th Street and left on Venetian to Chatham.
