In the far northeast corner of New Mexico, Clayton, eventually called the "Enchanted Corner" came into existence after the railroad's arrival in 1887. Visitors can fish for bass, walleye, trout and catfish at Clayton Lake State Park, about 12 miles north of Clayton. You will also find hiking and horseback riding trails near the lake. Walk along the spillway in the morning and late afternoon for the best viewings of over 500 preserved dinosaur footprints. After a long day, visitors can enjoy a hearty meal at one of the local restaurants.

Eklund Dining Room & Saloon

If you find yourself in the mood for a filet mignon, steak and lobster, Mexican food, seafood, homemade beef stew or a half-pound Eklund burger, Eklund Dining Room & Saloon is just the place. This restaurant offers a wide selection of menu items along with a full-service bar featuring wine, beer and mixed drinks. Children receive a Shirley Temple with their meals. Choose to dine in a luxury setting or in the more casual saloon. Restaurant hours run Monday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Wild Horse Grill & Steakhouse

You can dine on traditional American food such as chili, steaks and chicken-fried steak at the Wild Horse Grill & Steakhouse. Wednesdays feature Mexican cuisine. For example, enjoy a combination plate of a taco, tamale, enchilada and rice and beans, served with red or green chile. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Rabbit Ear Cafe

Start your day on the right foot with a breakfast burrito at the Rabbit Ear Cafe or feast on steak and eggs. The menu features both Mexican and American food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
