German Restaurants in Broward County, Florida
Broward County is an outdoorsman's paradise. With the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and intricate canal system, boating, swimming and fishing are popular, and getting around by water is almost as easy as on land. The beach is beautiful, clean white sand with a wide promenade next to it for walking, running, biking or rollerblading. The area is blessed with a diverse culture and many authentic restaurants, including several excellent German restaurants not to be missed.

Old Heidelberg Restaurant, Lounge & Bar

Old Heidelberg has a Bavarian kitsch atmosphere with steins on the ceiling and garden gnomes everywhere, but the authenticity of the menu is clear. A larger variety of German dishes are on this menu than anywhere outside of Deutschland. There is a "Sausages" Sampler Platter appetizer so diners can try four different varieties. There are schnitzels of all types, there are grilled steaks and wiener rostbraten, there is beef steak frikadelle, beef goulash, beef rouladen and stuffed pork roast tenderloin. Lamb chops, veal shank, schweinebraten, spanferkel (roast suckling pig with dumpling),and leberkäse (veal loaf topped with egg, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes) are just a few of the uncommon dishes on the menu at Old Heidelberg. This is a great place to come and try new German foods. Pricing is moderate and patrons leave satisfied, with leftovers. There is also a deli next door where prepared foods and other German products are available. The restaurant opens at noon, four on weekends, and happy hour is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Ambry German & American Restaurant

The Ambry Restaurant looks like a small German castle, complete with flags flying overhead. Inside, the atmosphere is authentic with lots of exposed brick, fireplaces and authentic German décor. The menu is extremely authentic, with many different styles of wienerschnitzel, including a Milano version, a pair of different calves liver recipes, rostbraten and schwabentopf (filet medallions on cheese spaetzle with mushroom cream sauce.) They also serve venison, buffalo steaks, lamb and rabbit for those who like their meat a little wild. Authentic desserts like Black Forest cake and sacher tortes are offered for after dinner, as are a variety of delicious coffee drinks spiked with brandy, vodka or schnapps. Pricing here is moderate, and they even offer early bird specials.

Old Vienna Restaurant

Old Vienna Restaurant prides itself on using the freshest ingredients, and even the sauces are made from scratch in the restaurant's kitchen. The menu is German-Austrian, and there is also a full line of both Austrian and German beers available. Located in a strip mall, it's not much from the outside, but the inside looks authentic. The menu includes lots of German favorites like various schnitzels, sauerbraten, and cordon bleu, as well as some fresh Vienna style meals: lemon chicken, shrimp Vienna and also Vienna style pork schnitzel and goulash. They are known for their strudel, so definitely save room for some dessert. The restaurant also features a good selection of German and Austrian wines, along with lots of cold, German beer on tap. Pricing is moderate, and there is often a buffet at lunchtime for those who'd like to try a little of everything.
