Four casinos on floating barges on the Mississippi River dot the landscape in the St. Louis area, which includes the bedroom communities of Maryland Heights and St. Charles. The resorts contain hotels, restaurants (including the ever-popular buffets) and the usual games of chance, such as slots, blackjack and craps. Each has a limited capacity based on the size of the barges.

Ameristar Casino

This 2,000-passenger barge on the Mississippi River offers the expected games of chance and includes a high limit room that was opened in 2009. This large property has 400 hotel rooms, 130,000 square feet of gaming space and seven restaurants.

Harrah's St. Louis

The St. Louis version of the country's largest casino brand contains the amenities expected from a Harrah's resort, including 50 suites among its 450 hotel rooms, seven restaurants and a poker room in the casino. The facility comprises two 3,200-passenger barges.

President Casino

This 2,500-passenger barge decorated in an art deco style is located near the Gateway Arch. It offers free shuttle service to and from downtown St. Louis hotels. There is a $2 admission charge for first-time visitors.
